The Grif / Massif project presents songs attached to a mythical universe where the Grif is at the top of the foodchain, and top of the creative chain. The grif travels through landscapes and soundscapes to explore itself as a being and the relationships that makes the Grif a fantastic uncontrollable being.

The main goal of the project is to produce material that enthusiasts and music lovers would want to listen to. The project is a collaboration between DuB studio, Nustate Studio, Klarinettbjorn and PåppFønk Music Production.

Grifs in the Grif Massif

After the Great Apocalypse, mankind experiences being challenged by a new species - a Cyborg - half machine, halv bird - with hybrid augmented human / digital intelligence. The Grifs are selfaware, self-conscious drones dominating air and land, wanting to make a greater world for both humans and Grifs.

The Grifs are unaware

The Grifs have had to develop and grow, hidden from the rest of the world - in a great Massif of mountains and forests. In the Massif they have evolved and have become superior to all other beings. However, they have not been aware of every struggle mankind has endured for thousands of years. They now have to make mistakes, go through hardships, encounter struggle and opposition to highten their understanding of the world they want to be a part of .

Grifs have feelings

Grifs are reasonable creatures. Calculating. Strategic. Tactical. - The annoying interruption of feelings are beeing explained as disturbances. The parradox of feelings of - good, joy, euphoria, love, belonging - is troubling, and an obstacle for the Grifs. Their attempts to ignore feelings, good or bad, seems futile and does not compute well in their superior, intelligent minds. However - The need for expressing themselves with music, colors, paintings, poetry is dualistic. It´s non-logical, but it´s meaningful. It seems to create cohorts - togetherness, it seems to give a dimension to explaining what cannot be explained, and therefor the Grifs accept - reluctantly - expressions of feelings.

Grifs have feelings

If AI came alive- what form would it take?

It would want to dominate the sky, the ocean surface and all the lands. Deserts as well as mountains.

It would fuse the power of technology with the power of living creatures.

It would be a hybrid drone. A cyborg. A pterodactyl. No - a Griffing.

The Grif species would evolve in the great mountain massifs, and at one point seek to dominate life on earth.

Grif massif is where everything changes for mankind.

Backstory:

The mythic fable-animal – The grif – exists in the great Massif and in his emancipation makes him evolve into a hunter, a leader, a lover. Through struggles and hardship, the Grif loses his first love, ,finds companionship in others and eventually gains both wisdom and strength.

“Mating call” is the Grifs process of selecting a mate, his invitation, their heightened alertness, his mating call, the break and the goodbyes, the pain of losing a loved one, the following sorrows and the sadness and acceptance of what he has experienced.

The distant cries of “it´s necessary to fail to grow” is howling in beautiful melodies from a far. The lack of cause raises questions of meaning and existance.
